If they don't hire you because you decided to take a year off then they're not worth working for. It's easy to be in the corporate mindset when you interview someone that this person must be somehow not a "team-player" or "go-getter" because he actually values life above working like a slave robot. Work for someone who understands the human element of life and doesn't treat another human being like an object or projects the reliability and uptime of computers to the human element.

There is a huge lack of empathy in corporate environments today which is incredibly dangerous, I think that's why work satisfaction is at an all-time low.

>DevSecOps

I hadn't heard this term until very recently when SaltStack started pushing their enterprise suite hard in the security direction, and I facepalmed.

According to St. Thomas Aquinas, no you cannot, because the immortal soul presupposes a participation in the infinite and eternal. Aristotle made this clear, which St. Thomas then expounds on:

"Man’s ultimate happiness consists in the contemplation of truth, for this operation is specific to man and is shared with no other animals. Also it is not directed to any other end since the contemplation of truth is sought for its own sake. In addition, in this operation man is united to higher beings (substances) since this is the only human operation that is carried out both by God and by the separate substances (angels). (Summa Contra Gentiles, book 3, chapter 37)

and

It is impossible for any created good to constitute man’s happiness. For happiness is that perfect good which entirely satisfies one’s desire; otherwise it would not be the ultimate end, if something yet remained to be desired. Now the object of the will, i.e., of man’s desire, is what is universally good; just as the object of the intellect is what is universally true. Hence it is evident that nothing can satisfy man’s will, except what is universally good. This is to be found, not in any creature, but in God alone, because every creature has only participated goodness. Therefore, God alone can satisfy the will of man, according to the words of the Psalms (102:5): “Who alone satisfies your desire with good things.” Therefore, God alone constitutes man’s happiness.” (Summa Theologica Part 2. Q.1. Article 8)

Same. I have AT&T gig fiber after switching from Comcast. 3 Years in, no complaints. My 2yr old son ripped the fiber line out of the house, and they came the next day and fixed it in like an hour, no charge. Been very satisfied with AT&T.

I recently switched from a 1000/50 package with Suddenlink (would rarely get over 400, even wired) to 1000/1000 with AT&T Fiber. I now easily get 950/950 wired consistently. It's $73/mo. The bill has been easy to understand. AT&T really surprised me with everything.

I got hit in the eye with a nerf dart once in an open office environment. Thank God I work remotely now. Open-offices are horrid.

Pipe Tobacco and a Book, or praying.

God bless him. He wrote extensively and very concisely on the topic. He was struck by a car last year and killed. He left behind a wife and many children.

>Every minute spent not fighting climate apocalypse is a bleep waste of time.

Are you being serious? I genuinely can't tell.

Imagine not being satisfied with 120 million dollars. Unreal to think about, but greed is never satisfied.

You can't even buy your own wide-body private jet or ultra-yacht with 120 million dollars.

If you're aiming for the billionaire narcissist bracket - because of course it's the lifestyle you deserve - 120 million is chump change.

>I think it's best to not assume my ethics are somehow more or less valid than anyone else's.

That violates the law of non-contradiction. Either one is wrong and one is right, or both people are wrong and they haven't realized what is right yet. Moral subjectivism as a principle makes absolutely no sense, and Aristotle destroyed that argument in Nichomachean Ethics.

I simply meant that when I am initially appalled by someone else's behavior it is usually more useful to try to understand their point of view than it is to demonize them. I also try to remind myself that I always have room for improvement. Of course there are plenty of times where I can't excuse or even understand the bad actions of others. I'm just wary of anyone treating their personal morals as absolute.

Are you trolling? I can't tell.

No. People just have no concept of objective morality today because everyone is hyper-sensitive to everything and can't take criticism at all.

what does it even mean for a moral system to be "right" or "wrong"? it's not like they have any predictive power.
