What product should I buy when I want it to last long? (buyforlife.com)

I tried to submit a product using the site's form[0], but only get a page error.

The product I wanted to submit was Tilley hat (made in Canada). I had one with some wear after 10 years that made it unsuitable for everyday use. They did send me a "free" replacement (I still had to pay $20) and the replacement hat, while very nice, no longer came with a lifetime warranty. And I had to send a photo to prove that I had destroyed the worn out hat. I think they still offer products with a lifetime warranty, but now you have to register the product when you buy it and I think they've introduced some other restrictions.

Not necessarily, but the better items usually cost more. So do your 'due diligence' first of all before you buy anything.

My philosophy is "Buy twice as good, and buy half as many". I tend to pay a lot for a car, but I can happily keep it for a decade or more. Most of the guys who have bought my relinquished cars have been extremely happy with them. (I'm looking at you, SAAB 900 1987 Kombi-Coupe and 2002 Mercedes C200K Coupe, 14 years and 15 years respectively.)
