I understand that corp execs are gonna corp exec,, but I gotta admit I am still unclear on a fundamental level why social media is any more blame worthy for misinformation than broadcast media on a qualitative level. FB never made you any promises that what your read on it contains any truth whatsoever.

If you have some time, I very highly recommend reading An Ugly Truth (https://www.indiebound.org/book/9780062960672). That book gave me a new realization - Facebook (and other companies) are not victims of their surroundings. There are some very intentional, very impactful decisions that are made at the highest level.

I think it’s mostly that they are incentivized to let some voices be amplified on their platform. The radical right is good for business so they let disinformation fester to make a few extra dollars.

I'm sorry, but I don't see how this is any different than networks being concerned about the ratings of each show, or Hollywood about projected return on budget when creating projects.

It’s the scale of it. How innocuous it seems. How One sided the moderation has been. Have you seen Facebook feeds? It blows my mind the amount of time people spend on that brain rot. It’s meant to be engaging and suck people in. In an customized way per individual. Mass media just can’t compete with Facebook for what it does. If you don’t see the difference I guess we can politely agree we live in different realities.
