False positive matter. Being arrested for something you didn't do is horrific and life changing. The human in the loop is human. We unconsciouly tend to trust machines as objective and accurate. This is not as simple as you make it to be.
We already trust human police to make matches using their eyes to apprehend suspects. This is fundamentally necessary to enforce laws and ensure a safe society. Since a human match is required with or without facial recognition, a false positive from an algorithm doesn’t make the problem any worse.
Yeah but here’s the problem, you massively increased one of the humans capabilities but none of the others. Like judgement or even perception.
With their superhuman search capability one person with a bias can discriminate against everyone in the database instead of just whoever is standing in front of them.
