31 here. Couldn't find work for 6 mo despite being well qualified for positions I applied for. My guess: too many applicants for the same position. Ended up going the freelancer route, couldn't be happier now. Sorry, I know this doesn't relate to age (I don't think) but just wanted to say that.

Good, long-term clients are worth their weight in gold. Both in terms of regular income, but also references: references for new clients or new employers.
